One hundred years of solitude by Gabriel

Be gentle with this one. let it in slow. This one is not an easy read but definitely worth it.

It took me some time to adjust into the world of Macondo, where everyone had the same name. It was confusing and irritating to remember which “Arcadio” or “Aureliano” the author spoke about as some of the characters lived for over a hundred years and almost all the characters were named the same YET I would definitely recommend this book just keep in mind my two advice:

  • keep your reading pace slow and let it all in by rereading the phrases and lines that seem confusing (which will most surely happen).
  • Gabriel García Márquez has a peculiar way of writing, (atleast I think so) it is too poetic, it gives too many details, his eyes will not miss anything. Your brain will be numb with all the beauty he’ll create while describing you everything in this novel. Brace yourself!

what i liked most about the book?

The title of the book so poetically sits apt for this story, Macondo indeed lived in a hundred years of solitude and so did the 7 generations of Buendía family. How the author reveals at the end everything that was written one hundred ahead of time completely blew my mind.

rating: 4/5
